Since 1891, Antica Legatoria Viali has been crafting a wide range of bindings in its workshop located in the heart of the historic center of Viterbo. We combine various materials, such as leather, fabric, paper, and imitation leather, with diverse techniques, including thread-sewn binding (filo refe), French binding, Bradel binding, paperback (brossura), and the Lumbeck system.
Our Bindings
Thanks to the use of the finest materials for albums, guest books, volumes, magazines, or theses, and our artisanal production processes, all of our products are meticulously crafted and built to last.
Half-Leather Bindings
A half-leather binding covers the spine and corners of the book with leather, parchment, or fabric, while the sides are covered with decorative paper or fabric.
Full-Leather Bindings
Full-leather binding involves covering the entire volume with leather or parchment.
Fabric Bindings
These bindings feature covers made from cotton, linen, or hemp fabric.
Inlaid Leather Bindings
In an inlaid leather binding, the entire volume is covered in leather like a full-leather binding. However, additional elements are included, such as mosaic-like inserts of differently colored leather or decorative applications on the leather covering.
Synthetic Material Bindings
This is a simple and affordable binding made with synthetic materials (imitation leather).
Paperback Bindings
Paperback binding is a simple and economical technique. Gatherings are sewn without cords or tapes, or for single sheets, they are glued using the Lumbeck technique. In both cases, the cover is made of heavy paper or cardboard glued directly to the spine, resulting in a soft, flexible cover.
Thread-Sewn Bindings
The sections that make up the book are sewn together onto tapes or cords for additional durability.
