Our laboratory of bindery rstore ancient volumes using a conservative restoration practice. Conservative restoration means the mending and consolidation of the paper and the cover binding material ,regenerating it without changing its original aspect. We have been training in binding for many yearsof work and practice and by attinging special courses of restoration of the paper at the "Buchbinder-colleg" in Stuttgart(Germany)
The technique we use is one tha doesn't use paper bleaching . Avoiding bleaching the paper allows you to read the book again and it will stop the deterioration it suffered .
We repair the lacking partsof the cover by simply mending its tears or without changing the original aspect. During the phases of restauration we use specific materials as Japanese paper, special leather or parchment. Only in very serious cases, which don't allow to restore the existing cover, We make a new cover only when the damages of the old one are very serious and impossible to be mended. In this case we will make the new cover respecting as much as possible the original pattern.
